Derrick Martell Rose is an American professional basketball player with the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association. He played a year of college basketball for the Memphis Tigers before being included with his hometown Chicago Bulls for the first time in the 2008 NBA Draft. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and also became the youngest player to win the 2011 NBA Best. Player of the Year award at the age of 22. Rose was born and raised in Chicago and attended Simeon Career Academy. He was recruited by numerous colleges, ultimately choosing to join the University of Memphis under the guidance of coach John Calipari. Rose led the Tigers to the most winning streak in NCAA history, ranked their first number one in 25 years, and made the NCAA Championship game. In 2009, an NCAA investigation found that Rose's SAT score was invalidated, and as a result, the NCAA was left blank for Memphis' entire 2007-08 season. Rose has suffered serious knee injuries since her 2010-2011 MVP campaign.

After being picked first overall in 2008, he became the leader of the Chicago Bulls. At the age of 22, he became the youngest player in NBA history to be selected MVP. In 2016, he played for the New York Knicks for a year before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. He joined the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2018 and the Detroit Pistons the following year.
